At 5:00 PM AST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Elsa was located near latitude 11.2 North, longitude 53.8 West. This is over the open waters of the West- Central Atlantic and at 660 KM East- Southeast of Barbados. The Storm is moving rapidly toward the West-Northwest or 285 degrees
near 25 knots or 46 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days. On the forecast track, Elsa will pass near or over portions of the Windward Islands or the Southern Leeward Islands on Friday, move into the Eastern Caribbean Sea late Friday and Friday night, and
move near the Southern coast of Hispaniola on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds are near
40 knots (75 km/h) with gusts to 50 knots (95 km/h).
On this forecast track, Elsa will pass on Saturday morning at a safe distance, 450 to 500 Km North of Aruba as a Tropical Storm.
This system poses no threat to the local area. Nevertheless, The Meteorological Department Aruba will keep a close eye on the developments of this system.
