ORANJESTAD, ARUBA

Whether after school or on the weekends the Freewinds Volunteer Ministers are helping to ensure locations where the youth gather are safe from Covid-19 through sanitization and education.

Whether after school for extra study or on weekends to have fun with friends, parents should feel confident that their children are safe from Covid-19, because the Volunteer Ministers from the Freewinds have been sanitizing the Centro di Barrios, National Libraries and YMCAs.

As the numbers of active cases of Covid-19 continue to drop, the Volunteers from the Freewinds have increased their efforts to bring the number to zero.  Now more than ever there is no reason to be less diligent in maintaining safety, especially when it comes to our children.  In fact it is time to work even harder to prevent any further spread of the virus.

“We are not slowing down, we are using this respite while the cases are going down to hit the areas where the youth gathers after school, as we need to do what we can to protect the families here on the island, and one of the most important ways is by protecting the youth,” says the Port Captain of the Freewinds, Mr. Ken Weber.  He added, “Although we are working with the schools Principals to train the kids to be as responsible as adults when it comes to following all the procedures to guard against spreading disease, we know it is also important to protect their environment for them.”

Along with the sanitation the Volunteer Ministers are providing educational material on how to stay safe and avoid the spread of illness through a series of Stay Well videos. These simple, easy to understand and videos provide the correct information that a young child can understand while adults find them to be very informative.

Mrs. Mariana Kelly Paula, the General Secretary of the YMCAs of Aruba had this to say, “I am very happy that the Freewinds Volunteer Ministers decided to sanitize the YMCA facilities.  In San Nicolas there are at least 50 to 60 kids in every day after school plus the first and second grade students from Reina Beatrix School in the morning.  So the building has to be clean.  Also 200 meals per day are prepared there for the Meals on Wheels program so sanitation is really important now. Thank you very much!”
