2018 kicked off with a successful “Super Weekend”:
Aruba Airport handled over 24.000 passengers and
over 250 aircraft movements

ORANJESTAD – Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) kicked off 2018 on a positive note considering the amount of passengers and airplane movements handled in the first weekend of 2016, known as “Super Weekend”. The first weekend after New Year’s Day is historically the busiest period for passenger traffic worldwide and at Queen Beatrix International Airport due to the amount of passengers that arrive and depart from Aruba after the holiday season.
Of course, such an extremely busy weekend required good planning and coordination between all the stakeholders, departments and employees at the airport. These planning efforts prior to this period showed great results when looking at the fact that even though it was a super busy weekend where a total of 24.213 passengers and 251 total aircraft operations were handled (both commercial and private) in the 2-day period, the operation maintained the highest levels of safety and security, along with efficient and effective passenger processing, resulting in a positive passenger experience for the thousands of people traveling through the airport.

These results take a tremendous amount of coordination, planning and commitment from a number of airport partners, and this past weekend’s results could not have been possible without the great efforts of the US Customs and Border Protection, Local Immigrations (IASA), the Border Police Department at the airport, Aruba Customs, Air Navigation Services Aruba N.V. (ANSA), Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), the airlines, ground handlers, Department of Public Transportation (DTP), the taxi cab drivers, concession and F&B operators, Total Services, Valero, Flexo, Aruba Security and Crime Prevention, W Aviation FBO and the AAA team amongst others.

AAA CEO Mr. James Fazio commented on the Super Weekend by saying: “Compared to previous years we handled slightly less passengers and aircrafts, due to the disruption in the Northeast US due to the snow storm, which resulted in several days of cancellations, and also the shut-down from Venezuela. But nonetheless, the key ingredient for the successful Super Weekend was great teamwork by all the airport partners. It’s impressive what can be accomplished with the right focus and commitment, great job by all.”
